The Teachers
Posted on Mon, Nov 10 @ 11:39 by webmaster

Joy School recognizes that the success of our program is largely based upon the efforts of the teachers that present these materials to the students. Whilst our aim is to ensure that students learn and are able to use English effectively, it is important that the learning environment is a happyand enjoyable one.

In developing and writing the textbooks and other materials used within our schools, we have been mindful of how these materials can best be presented in the classroom. As such, all texts are accompanied by comprehensive teaching guides containing hints regarding games and activities that can be used by teachers to reinforce the content of each unit, in an enjoyable yet productive manner. By supporting teachers the best that we can, we hope to ensure that teachers find the environment within our schools as equally happy, enjoyable and rewarding as the students do. Happy and enthusiastic teachers have proven to achieve the best results in any classroom situation, and this is rewarded by the loyalty shown by many of our students and their parents who have been with us for years.

The Joy system involves teamwork. Co-operation between teachers ensures the best results within the classroom. The bulk of classes conduced by Joy school involve Chinese and foreign teachers having an equal share of the teaching responsibilities. The standard procedure is for the Chinese and foreign teachers to each teach one hour of each two-hour class. Both teachers have equal status and are expected to coordinate their lesson plans and discuss student progress and performance prior to class. In addition to the teaching responsibilities outlined above, Chinese teachers have the additional responsibilities of giving and correcting student’s homework, giving regular quizzes and conducting telephone teaching. During the foreign teachers teaching hour, the Chinese teacher remains in the classroom correcting homework and preparing tests. Although Chinese teachers may provide minimal assistance to foreign teachers during this time, the foreign teacher remains responsible for teaching.

Joy employs native English speaking teachers from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Whilst many schools in Taiwan favor teachers with north American accents, Joy is proud of the diversity of teachers that we have on staff, and believe that exposure to a number of accents and cultures enriches the learning experiences of our students. Many of the foreigners working within our schools establish social relationships with each other, ensuring that new teachers have a peer support network from day one in Taiwan.

Joy recruits their Chinese teachers from leading universities throughout Taiwan. All Chinese teachers are fully trained and can be a good source of information on classes, students, and teaching in general. Our human resources department holds language exams periodically to recruit Chinese teachers and in order to make sure that their language abilities are up to the level we expect. After passing the exam, the teachers are required to attend hours of training and class observation. We are proud to say that our teachers are well trained and qualified for their jobs, and are a valuable part of the success of our school.

Due to the size of our enterprise we constantly have positions available. For further information regarding positions currently available please click here.
