If the students are simply playing with toys in the class
then they are just that, playthings. But if those same playthings are
used with the purpose of getting the students involved in the material
and to participate more in the class, then they are tools of the trade.
Most kids like throwing things, especially at targets. So why not make
targets on the whiteboard for the students to hit.
Here is one suggestion for you to try that will encourage the students
to spell review or new vocabulary. After writing the words to be practiced
on the board, draw a circle around each word and give each target word
a score point, say 1-5. Place a marker on the floor at an appropriate
distant from the board. For nouns, show the picture-side of the flash
cards, for verbs and adjectives you can act them out. ave the students
compete to say then spell the word. For additional spelling practice,
have the team respell the word in unison before that student takes a shot
at the word. You can either reward the student individually or reward
the team as a whole. It’s up to you, what’s you purpose?
