As a continuation to the March issue of Teaching Tips, here are 8 pointers
to you solve any situation.
1. If you are a new comer to Taiwan and teaching, remember
that you may be overwhelmed with work, training, situations, culture shock,
home sickness and the list goes on. Try not to deal with everything on
your own, remember help is very close by.
2. Speak with your co-teacher for that particular class
and find out how he/she deals with that same situation.
3. Your school may have a library of training recordings
for you to look at. Remember, it’s always a good idea to arm yourself
and be ready for any situation so try to make time to view these training
recordings in your free time-arrange this with your manager.
4. Monthly workshops are conducted around the island
and all Joy School teachers are welcome to attend-see Workshop News below
for details on this month’s topic.
5. Joy Notes is a monthly newsletter that has been going
since 1996. Check to see how many back issues your school has kept and
do a little reading. Ms. Lee High on page 2 answers questions written
in by teachers.
6. If your school has a monthly academic meeting, check
to see if you are able to discuss your situations with the other teachers.
7. You may be in a position where you have experienced
teachers working at your school. Most of these teachers are only too willing
to help and share their experiences.
8. Your Teacher Trainer is only a phone call away. Find
out when your T/T will be visiting your school next.
Keep these tips in mind and hopefully everything will be fine.
