Highlights
The 2007 Sixteenth International Symposium and Book Fair was held at the
Chien Tan Overseas Youth Activity Center in Taipei from November 9 to 11.
This symposium and book fair, hosted by English Teacher’s Association of
the Republic of China (ETA-ROC) and Shih Hsin University, is one of the
most important events in the field of English language teaching in Taiwan. |
 |
|
Language teaching is not a self-contained field of study. Discoveries
and developments in related areas may improve the current teaching approaches
and methods and help students to learn languages better. Hence, this conference
focused on English language teaching (ELT), learning, and assessment as
well as discussing various innovations in English teaching and learning.
It included themes such as literature and ELT, linguistics and ELT, technology
and ELT, reading and writing, and linguistics and speaking. |

Another Triumph for JOY
JOY Enterprises Organization, a leader in English language teaching of
children for over 26 years, was one of the most active and enthusiastic
participants at the convention. As participants walk into the exhibition
hall of the convention, they will notice the elegant and colorful JOY exhibition.
Despite being located in a dimly lit corner, the JOY exhibition, with the
help of an energetic JOY staff and colorful signs and posters, had caught
the eyes of many participants and outshined the other displays. |
In addition, although the weather was cold outside, all
the participants were received with a warm welcome when they stopped
by the JOY booth. One staff at the convention even commented that, without
JOY’s energetic and enthusiastic participation, this convention would
be a lot less attractive and worthwhile. |
 |
 |
Moreover,
the teaching seminars conducted by JOY were also a great success. Experienced
trainers from JOY’s Training and Evaluation Department prepared six seminars
on the following topics: theories and practices of English teaching,
English drama teaching for preschool kids, training of English listening,
learning gap between students, drama-based English teaching, and American
idiom. These topics generated lots of interest. The corridors were
occupied by long queues of English teachers and students waiting to enter
the various classrooms to listen to the seminars. |

This year’s symposium and book fair sure was a big success
for JOY. JOY will continue to maintain its fine quality and high standards
in teaching and its products. The Joy Family gives our warmest thanks
to all of you, and we hope to see you at the convention next year! |
